Groundskeeper

The Groundskeeper performs grounds operations and maintenance functions for the orderly burial of the dead, as well as, contribute to the good public relations of Catholic Cemeteries by providing services in a competent and respectful manner, whilst serving the families in a caring and compassionate spirit. 

Responsibilities 

  • Cemetery grounds operations include grave preparations, burial functions, planting, maintaining irrigation systems and providing general care of property.
  • Ensuring that cemetery grounds operations are performed in compliance with established cemetery, archdiocesan, governmental and health & safety regulations.
  • Performing burial services and memorial placements in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Assisting visitors with the location of gravesites/lots utilizing available resources such as cemetery maps and interment records.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Knowledge of the Catholic Church and Catholic burial tradition and the key components of the rituals.
  • Knowledge of grounds and building maintenance.
  • High school graduate; cemetery maintenance courses (preferred).
  • Experience in operating backhoe, tractor, pickup, mowers and small equipment related to cemetery maintenance and operations.
  • Previous experience in the cemetery industry would be an asset.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the job.

Working Environment 

  • Normal Business hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Saturday.  Need to be available for occasional evening/weekend work as required.
  • Duties are performed in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to meet Safe Environment requirements is a condition of employment.

  • Hourly range – $21.50 - $25.00
