In the fall of 1955, Mr. James Courtwright (formerly of
Vancouver) an active member of the Serra Club of Toronto, on a visit to
Vancouver approached most Rev. Martin Johnson and Archbishop Duke about
the formation of a Serra Club for Vancouver. As result of this, 44
potential members attended a meeting on 4 January 1956. Doug Andrews was
elected the first President of the Club in formation, J.W. Monohan, Vice
President, George McVey, Second Vice President, E.D. Sutcliffe as
Secretary and I.A. Rader as Treasurer. The Trustees were C. Choate, F.J.
Foran, N. Fujisava and C.H. Townsend.
In January 1957, E.D. Sutcliffe took over as President
and on 30 November 1957 the SERRA CLUB OF VANCOUVER became a fully
chartered club and 160th of Serra International.
Today the Club is just as active and dedicated to its
work as it was when it first started 50 years ago!
