In 1965, when the Gardens of Gethsemani were established in South Surrey, near White Rock, the cemetery was in a rural area; many considered it remote from the major centre of population. That is no longer the case. With the phenomenal growth that has taken place in the Lower Mainland, the cemetery is at the heart of this metropolitan area, centrally located in Surrey, now B.C.'s second largest city, ready to serve the needs of parishioners and parishes of the entire area, particularly those in the adjacent communities along the south shores of the Fraser River; Richmond, Delta, White Rock, Langley, as well as Surrey.
