Traditions of Roman Catholic Homes
(TORCH) was founded in 1990 by five families in Baltimore MD who got
together to support one another in homeschooling and traditional Catholic
family life. As this homeschooling chapter grew beyond 150 families in two
years, TORCH chapters began forming all across the United States (over 50
chapters by 1995).
In February 1994, four Catholic families began meeting
in Abbotsford BC after belonging to a Christian homeschooling group for
many years. When introduced to TORCH USA at a homeschooling conference
these families joined with a few others to form the first Canadian TORCH
chapter, "TORCH of the Fraser Valley." This chapter has grown to
include families from all over the Lower Mainland of BC and is the
umbrella group for chapters forming all across Canada (20 new chapters by
July 1997).
