Vancouver Archdiocesan Certificate in
Catechetical Formation
Winter Institute
The following Catechetical Formation Courses are open to anyone
wishing to deepen their faith. Each course also forms part of the
Vancouver Archdiocesan Certificate for either PREP (Parish Religious
Education Program), RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults),
or LWC (Liturgy of the Word With Children).

BASICS OF
THE FAITH
Section "A"
Presenters: Chuck Luttrell & Madonna House
Description:
The Basics of the Faith course is open to anyone wishing to
deepen their faith. It is also a required course for the
Vancouver Archdiocesan Certificates.
Basics of the Faith is a two-day course covering the four
pillars of the Catechism of the Catholic Church and is referred
to as Section A and Section B. SECTION A will be offered during
this Winter Institute. Presenters will include Mary-Lynn, Doreen
& Emmanuella from Madonna House and Chuck Luttrell from the ORE.
Required course for PREP, RCIA
and LWC formation certificate
Section B will be offered during Spring Institute, April 5,
2008.
CLASSROOM
MANAGEMENT
Presenter: Murita Chua
Description:
This course will focus on skills and ideas to help catechists
create a religious education environment conducive to learning
and celebrating. Participants will explore topics such as:
creating a positive classroom environment, establishing
classroom norms and consequences, conflict resolution, group
management techniques, as well as communication skills. Murita
Chua, PREP Consultant with the Office of Religious Education,
looks forward to sharing ideas and experiences.
This course is a required course for the PREP
formation Certificate only.
THE CHURCH: THE PEOPLE OF GOD JOURNEY THROUGH HISTORY
Presenter: Brother Bill Bolts, S.M.
Description:
Jesus told his Apostles to teach all nations. Experience how the
“people of God” have fulfilled this mandate of Christ to
evangelize people in all places and ages. Become involved in our
past heritage to learn ways of experiencing and relating it for
today’s “people of God” in passing on the faith in our time.
Bro. Bill, who holds a doctorate in church history, is a veteran
educator/administrator, and has authoured books and articles on
church history.
This course is an elective and applicable to
all certificates.
RCIA CATECHESIS:
INTRODUCTION AND CONTENT
Presenter: Kyle Neilson
Description:
“Go…teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.”
This workshop will provide a foundation for all RCIA catechists
through exploring the role of catechesis in the mission of the
Church. Participants will also examine the content that is to be
delivered, including Sacred Scripture, doctrine, and personal
testimony, all in relation to the unique rites and periods of
the RCIA process. Kyle Neilson is the RCIA and adult faith
formation Consultant with the Office of Religious Education.
This course is a required course for the RCIA
formation Certificate only.
