Vancouver Archdiocesan Certificate in Catechetical Formation
The following Catechetical Formation Courses are open to anyone wishing to deepen their faith. Each course also forms part of the Vancouver Archdiocesan Certificate for either PREP (Parish Religious Education Program), RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults), or LWC (Liturgy of the Word With Children).

BASICS OF THE FAITH Section "B"

Presenters: Chuck Luttrell & Madonna House

Description:
The Basics of the Faith course is open to anyone wishing to deepen their faith. It is also a required course for the Vancouver Archdiocesan Certificates.
Basics of the Faith is a two-day course (Section A and Section B) covering the four pillars of the Catechism of the Catholic Church. SECTION B will be offered during this Spring Institute. Presenters will include Mary-Lyyn, Doreen & Emmanuella from Madonna House and Chuck Luttrell from the ORE.

> Required course for PREP, RCIA and LWC formation certificate Section A will be offered during Summer Institute, August 22-23, 2008.

 

CHILDREN & PRAYER

Presenter: Murita Chua

Description:
This course is designed to help catechists, LWC presiders, or any adult leader, in guiding their students to an appreciation of the centrality of the Eucharist and the importance of prayer in our lives. There will be opportunities to participate in prayer, to plan and lead age appropriate meaningful prayer experiences using a variety of resources. To be presentned by Murita Chua, Office of Religious Education PREP Consultant.

 > This course is a required course for the PREP formation Certificate or an “elective for LWC & RCIA.

 

BREAKING OPEN THE GOSPELS

Presenter: Leanne Penco

Description:
Participants in this course will learn different methods of exploring the Gospels to bring them to life. It includes discovering the differences and similarities between the Gospels, the New Testament culture and times and a look at the Gospel writers. Working individually and in small groups, you will discover the richness of the Gospels. This course is designed to deepen the adult faith journey through scripture and reflection. This course is presented by Leanne Penco, Consultant with the Office of Religious Education

> This course is a required course for the LWC formation Certificate or an “elective for PREP & RCIA.

 

CATECHETICAL METHODOLOGY IN THE RCIA

Presenter: Kyle Neilson

Description:
Designed to build on “RCIA Catechesis: Introduction and Content,” this course will explore how the rites and periods of the RCIA shape the methods that are to be used in catechesis. Attention will then be devoted to practical matters such as structuring a RCIA session and using art, music, small groups, and personal testimony to communicate the treasures of the Catholic faith. Kyle Neilson is the RCIA and adult faith formation Consultant with the Office of Religious Education.

> This course is a required course for the RCIA formation Certificate only.

 

THE CHURCH: THE PEOPLE OF GOD JOURNEY THROUGH HISTORY, Part II

Presenter: Brother Bill Bolts, S.M.

Description:
Since the religious revolutions of the 16th century, the Catholic Church has been challenged by a series of ideologies that shape our modern world. This course will focus on how during the last four centuries, the Church has continued to teach, sanctify, and make disciples in a world that frequently challenges and even rejects the message of Christ. We will explore how the “people of God” adhered to and adapted the message of Christ from the Council of Trent to Vatican II to our own day. Bro. Bill, who holds a doctorate in church history, is a veteran educator/administrator, and has authoured books and articles on church history.

> This course is an elective and applicable to all certificates
