Vancouver Archdiocesan Certificate in Catechetical Formation
The following Catechetical Formation Courses are required courses for anyone wishing to pursue the Vancouver Archdiocesan Certificate in Catechetical Formation for PREP (Parish Religious Education Program), RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) or LWC (Liturgy of the Word With Children). It should be noted, however, that these courses are open to anyone, whether or not they are enrolled in a certificate programme.

BASICS OF THE FAITH (Section B)      Cost: $35.00

Note: (Required course for PREP, LWC and RCIA Formation Certificates)

Description:
The Basics of the Faith course covers the basic tenets of the Catholic faith through the four pillars of the Catechism of the Catholic Church- Creed, Morality, Prayer and Sacraments. The 2-day course will be given one day at a time and is referred to as Section A and Section B. Section B is offered at this Institute and will offer an overview of the pillars on Prayer and Sacraments.

Description:
This course will explore the noble vocation of the catechist and will offer the beginning catechist the basic methods and tools needed to facilitate the catechetical formation of children. Topics will include: lesson planning, basic classroom management, learning styles, and stages of development.

LITURGY OF THE WORD WITH CHILDREN ORIENTATION AND TRAINING              Cost: $35.00

Description:
This course is a must for all novice presiders as well as a wonderful refresher for other team members. This is a practical, step-by-step course that will assist you in preparing the Liturgy of the Word with Children. The planning and implementation of Children’s Liturgy will be discussed as well as basic management and presentation techniques.

Description:
Providing an understanding of two essential elements of the RCIA process, this course will address the work of introducing persons to Jesus Christ and his Church through catechesis and “the care of souls.” In addition to exploring the general nature of catechesis in the RCIA, pastoral matters such as sponsors, parish involvement, and marriage issues will be discussed.
