Unit One Unit Two Unit Three
Covenant and Lectionary Based Catechesis Jesus in the Judeo Roman Culture Infancy Narratives

The students will:

A.Covenant: Old and New

I. The students will demonstrate a knowledge of the link between the Old Testament and the New Testament.

2. The student will articulate an understanding of how the New Covenant is a fulfillment of the Old Covenant.

B. Introduction to the Liturgical Year and Lectionary Based Catechesis

I. The students will begin a yearlong process of learning how to use Scripture to review and evaluate themselves and the world around them.

2. The student will demonstrate a basic understanding of the Liturgical year.

3. The student will show how the Liturgical year is a mirror of our human experience.

The students will:

A. Roman Ruled Judaic World

I. The students will demonstrate an understanding of the social, economic, political and religious dimensions of the Jewish world at the time of Jesus.

2. The students will identify Israel as an occupied country under Roman rule.

3. The students will demonstrate a knowledge that the political system at the time of Jesus was religiously based.

B. A World Transformed by Jesus

I. The students will compare and contrast Jesus' world view with our own world view.

2. The students will develop an appreciation of the Jewish people as our brothers and sisters.

 

The students will:

1. The student will identify the Christmas story as composite of more than one Gospel.

2. The student will recall the extraordinary births the Old Testament and make connections to the extraordinary births of the New Testament.

3. The student will be able to identify and explain the various symbols of the infancy narratives and make the connection as to how the incarnation of Jesus continues to be revealed in our world today.

4. The student will recognize that God's plan is fulfilled in the face of human and cultural obstacles.

5. The student will analyze Joseph's situation and his willingness to accept God's will.

6. Students will recognize the various ways in which our culture has commercialized the Infancy Narratives.

Unit Four Unit Five Unit Six
New Testament and Gospel Formation The Call and Mission of Jesus

The Paschal Mystery

The students will:

1. The students will be able to identify the divisions of the New Testament.

2. The student will know when, why and for whom the Gospels were written.

3. The students will be able to explain in what ways the four gospels differ.

4. The students will know that the Gospels are the Early Church's interpretation of their experience of Jesus.

 The students will:

A. The Call

L The student will be able to identify the importance of the Baptism of John and Jesus in their call and mission.

2. The student will be able to identify Jesus as Saviour.

3. The student will be able to identify the call of the apostle.

4. The student will be able to identify and describe the role of others called to complete the mission Jesus.

5. The students will be able to identify who Jesus is for themselves.

B. The Mission

I. The student will discuss the place and role of miracles in the mission of Jesus.

2. The student will be able to explain the parables of Jesus as methods of relating his message to our everyday life.

3. The students will be able to understand both the literal and the deeper, symbolic meanings of the miracles and parables which call us to an ongoing conversion of our hearts.

 The students will:

I. The student will be able to articulate the Paschal mystery as a fulfillment of the Old Testament prophecy.

2. The student will relate the cycle of suffering aJ death leading to resurrection of the Paschal mystery to our lived experience (life/death/life)

3. The student will be able to show how the Paschal mystery relates to our own life journey.

4. The students will demonstrate how the Paschal mystery links into the liturgical life of the Church ie. Triduum.

9. Demonstrate the importance of Sacraments, with an emphasis on the centrality of the Eucharist, in the life of Catholic.

10. Celebrate the presence ( the Sacred through participation in worship experiences using sacramentals, symbols and rituals.

11. Use appropriate resources to plan and participate in liturgy and other prayer experiences.
Unit Seven Unit Eight
We Are Called: Discipleship Jesus Our Model

The students will:

1. The student will demonstrate an understanding of the Resurrection as the most significant event in the life of Jesus.

2. The student will be able to illustrate the role of baptism as a corporation into Christ and His mission

3. The student will illustrate that we are the Body of Christ in the world today, all of us called individually by Jesus as were the disciples.

4. The student will be able to acknowledge the real presence of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist.

5. The student will recognize that God calls us into loving service and that He calls us in the context of our life experience with our unique identity and special giftedness.

6. The student will know how we can live the meaning of the Eucharist by giving of ourselves to ech other to build up the Body of Christ.

7. The student will begin to reflect on how they personally have brought new life to others

8. Each student will begin to discern the mission that Jesus is calling them to undertake.

The students will:

1. The students will show how Jesus is a sign of faithfulness and love.

2. The students will be able to articulate an understanding that Jesus continues to reveal Himself in a loving, trusting commitment.

3. The students will articulate an understanding that in committed loving relationships, we imitate Jesus in continuing to reveal ourselves to one another with trust.

4.The students will recognize their own sexual identify as a beautiful gift from God as part of who they are as whole and holy persons.

5. The students will recognize that the context for genital sexual expression is the loving committed relationship of the marriage covenant

6. The students will use the Sermon on the Mount to develop a synthesis of what it means to be a Christian disciple.
