Most Rev. William Mark Duke

Born in 1879 in St. John, New Brunswick, he came to Vancouver as Archbishop Casey's coadjutor.  A strict disciplinarian, the "Iron Duke" kept careful rein on finances during the Hungry Thirties and World War II.  t-duke-l.JPG (4014 bytes)He achieved his goals of fostering local vocations, building enough parishes and schools to meet Catholic needs, and establishing St. Mark's College.
